Frequently Asked Questions About Autism & ABA Therapy
Families in New Jersey often have questions when exploring autism support and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy. The answers below explain common service, care-team and planning topics. For details about your child’s individual needs, please contact our team.
1. What is ABA therapy?
ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) therapy is an evidence-based approach that focuses on improving specific behaviors, such as communication, social skills, and adaptive learning skills (e.g., hygiene, grooming, fine motor skills, and academics). It is commonly used to support individuals with autism and other developmental disorders.
2. How do I get started with services?
You can get started by completing our intake form or contacting us directly through our website. After an initial conversation, our team can explain the intake process and help review benefit information. If services are appropriate, a qualified BCBA will assess your child’s needs and develop an individualized treatment plan.
3. What age groups do you serve?
We currently serve children and adolescents under 18 years of age. Please contact our team to confirm service availability for your location and your child’s needs.
4. Are your services covered by insurance?
ABA Launchpad is an out-of-network provider. We can help families verify benefits for eligible commercial plans, including Aetna, Horizon, Cigna and UnitedHealthcare (UHC). Coverage, out-of-network benefits and authorization requirements vary by plan, and verification does not guarantee payment. Please visit our Insurance page or contact us to discuss your plan.
5. Do you offer therapy in languages other than English?
Currently, our services are primarily provided in English. However, if you need services in another language, please contact us — we’ll do our best to accommodate based on staff availability.
6. What qualifications do your therapists have?
All of our Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) are certified through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB). Our Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) are also certified and undergo rigorous training and ongoing supervision.
7. What’s the difference between a BCBA and an RBT?
-
BCBA: Designs and supervises individualized treatment plans.
-
RBT: Implements the treatment plan under the supervision of the BCBA and works directly with your child.
8. How long are therapy sessions?
Session lengths vary based on your child’s treatment plan and insurance approval. Typical sessions range from 2 to 4 hours and may occur several times a week.
9. Can services be provided at daycare or school?
Yes, if the facility allows it and if it fits within the treatment plan. We also offer therapy at home, which is often the most natural and effective setting for learning.
10. How do I know if ABA is right for my child?
ABA is one support option that may help some children work toward individualized goals. Whether it is appropriate depends on your child’s strengths, needs, preferences and family priorities. Contact us to discuss your questions and whether an assessment may be helpful.
